This has been my hot discovery of the week – London’s Columbia Road Flower Market in East London. It’s just wonderful. Flowers of all shapes and sizes – 20 white roses for £5, Orchids for £5. Tray upon tray of pretty little bedding plants, all well priced and turning their colourful faces up towards the hoards of onlookers. (That was the one down side – there are a lot of people wiggling down a slim road.)
There were also lovely young trees, even Clementine trees. I proudly bought some thyme, mint and sage for £5 all in and two lavenders for £5, all smelling absolutely gorgeous.
If you’re a plant lover – herbs, cut flowers, pot plants, vegetables (there were some very tempting runner beans) – it’s a great place to go for a Sunday trip – closing at 3pm. In the surrounding streets there are also some charming vintage shops, antique/bric-a-brac stores and cafes – all very East London. Make an afternoon of it!
